Once upon a time there lived an Emperor of a land, far away in the North. The emperor was rich, grand and arrogant.
One day when he was enjoying a royal feast with his family, he told his three daughters.
“Enjoy my dears! Regale in life for you are my daughters!”
“Luck has indeed favored you by making you my daughters and fortune has been good to you because you are my daughters!”
“Indeed father! We are lucky to be your daughters” said the eldest daughter with gratefulness.
“Father, surely our fortune is good because we are your daughters” said the middle daughter agreeing with her older sister.
“Nan Yung? Won’t you say anything? Said the Emperor to his youngest daughter, Nan Yung.
“Indeed father, we are lucky, even blessed to be your daughters but….”
“But?” questioning his daughter.
“I believe that each human is born with its own luck”.
“Our luck also depends on our efforts, luck is lucky only when meet with efforts” said Nan Yung explaining to her father why, with grace.
“Your own efforts?” he scoffed arrogantly.
“So, being my daughters doesn’t matter at all?” said the emperor angrily
The two princesses and the guard all gasp in shock no one has ever talk like that to the emperor, once the prince (their uncle) talk to the emperor like that, the emperor demand him to put him into thedetention house.
“Father…. I didn’t mean….” Said Nan Yung
“Enough!!! Your luck depends on your own efforts, right? Guards!!!” said the father while glaring at his youngest daughter. The daughter keeps telling her father she didn’t mean it but the guards told her to be quite or she will be in the same fate as her uncle.
They went out the dining hall and went to the main hall to discuss what should they do to Nan Yung.
“My daughter here thinks her luck will come from her own efforts and has nothing to do with me” said the emperor fiercely at the guards.
“Father….” Said Nan Yung trying to explain that what she meant but she got cut off by her father.
“Find the poorest, I mean the poorest, as poor as poor can get” said the emperor to the guard next to him.
“Find the poorest girl in the entire kingdom for me” said the head of the imperial guard to the messengers.
“I shall get my youngest daughter to live with her”
“Let me see what luck own effort brings her then!”Said the Emperor arrogantly. He is sure she would not survive for a single week and would come back to beg for forgiveness.
The messengers searched the entire kingdom and finally found a girl they believed was the poorest of all. They went inside her house to ask her some question.
“In which city of my empire do you stay?” said the emperor to the girl.
“I... I can…cannot afford to stay in a city, your highness, I have a hut in the forest…” said the girl nervously.
The emperor starts asking question to the girl.
“How many fields do you have?” the emperor asking the girl.
“None your majesty!” said the girl.
“Horses?” asking the girl another question.
“None” answering the emperor.
“Clothes other than those that you are wearing?” said the emperor
“None, your majesty,” said the girl.
“Well, you have to the poorest girl there ever was.” Said the emperor arrogantly.
“Fine I shall get my daughter live with you” said the emperor pleased that he found what exactly he wants.
So princess Nan yang went to the hut in the forest with Mei Ling, they walked together happily. Mei Ling told her how living there could be hard but at the same time it’s peaceful. She also told the princess when the sunrises the bird would sing a beautiful
“I had to obey the king’s orders…. This is all I have … sorry” said Mei Ling embarrassed.
“We will make our own effort. I am sure luck will favor us.” Said the princess to Mei Ling.
“Well…. I guess I need to get some wood, it will be cold at night, and I don’t have a blanket…and I couldn’t go to the market to sell wood… so there is nothing to eat.” Said Mei Ling.
One day while Mei Ling and Nan Yung playing in the forest near the Hut they found a treasure. It’s a big hole full of Crystals, Diamonds and Rubys.
They quickly sell them to the market and they became rich. The emperor heard how they are doing and decided came by to visit them, because he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
“How did you become rich” ask the emperor, still can’t believe what he was seeing.
“One word. Luck.” said princess Nan Yung.
“I will admit that I’m wrong, sorry” said the emperor with guilt on his face.
“It’s ok, father,” said Nan Yung.
“I also want to apologize to you Ms. Mei Ling, I’m sorry for calling you poor that is not a leader nor a good person behavior” said the emperor to Mei Ling.
“It’s ok, your majesty” said Mei Ling.
“Now Nan Yung will you come back to the palace,” said the emperor.
“Yes father, but on one condition can Mei Ling come with us?”
“Sure, my dear,” said the emperor.
They went to the palace together happily.

Luar biasa ...... Congratulations, Shafiyya Dhafira Jauza, on your wonderful story “The Lucky Princess.”
BalasHapusYour writing shows imagination, confidence, and a deep understanding of moral lessons far beyond your age. At just ten years old, you have already created a tale filled with emotion, conflict, wisdom, and transformation—elements that many adult writers struggle to master.
Your characters speak with clarity and purpose, your plot moves with energy, and your message about effort, humility, and true luck shines beautifully through Nan Yung’s journey. You also show a natural talent for dialogue and storytelling rhythm, making the story engaging from beginning to end.
It is inspiring to see a young writer from Aceh, now growing and learning in Adelaide, express such creativity and maturity. Keep writing, keep imagining, and keep believing in your talent. With dedication and passion, you will continue to grow into an extraordinary storyteller—and perhaps one day, a neurosurgeon who also writes books that touch people’s hearts.
Thanks a lot for encouraging and kind words on Shafiyya's writing. I believe she will be extremely happy to read the readers' responses. This will strongly keep motivating her to love reading and writing on her best version. Again, thanks a lot for this amazing media!
